Census 2020
In 2020, the census determined how $675 billion in federal funding would be distributed to states and cities over the next decade. Because the amount of money received is directly tied to the census results, an undercount can cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
In El Paso, 30% of the population is considered “hard to count.” These citizens generally have limited English proficiency, a low income, reside in rural or geographically isolated areas, or are less accessible for enumerators in some capacity.
So, we partnered with local community leaders to reach these hard-to-count communities and make sure their voices were heard. Our “With You/Without You” campaign used simple visual representations to directly show our audience how their lack of participation results in losses that affect the entire community.
